It does have a firewall. It has IPv4 & 6 (using IPv4) spi protection enabled. It is set to filter "anonomyous internet requests" and IDENT (port 113). As far as I know, that has not been changed for some time. And, it is not impacting my other two computers, both or which are connecting via the same router.

Is there a black list for the MAC address filtering?

By black list, I am assuming you mean a least of MAC addresses to be blocked. there is a MAC filter, which I have set up to accept only specific MAC addresses. It has the option of excluding specific MAC addresses, but I have it set to only accept those listed.

Yes. However, I realized last night that it would block all traffic, not just HTTP traffic, and block connections to the router at all.

You might try resetting the security zones to the default level in the internet options menu in the control panel. I'm not sure what else to try, but we have it isolated to HTTP traffic.

I will give that a try. Will also try connecting the computer directly to the router. That will take a little time since I find i need a VGA cable to connect the PC to the monitor. Will let you know what I find out. Thanks again for your help.

I would also try resetting the advanced settings to their default.

Are you able to connect the computer to the Internet via an Ethernet cable to the router? Knowing that would isolate to the wireless connection or Internet in general (see following).
Your wireless link to the router should have security settings, check those are appropriate.
Do you need to set access to the ISP to get to the Internet? (UID+PW, perhaps even their software routine.)
What error messages are you getting?

Tried all of your prevlous suggestions with no success. Hauled the computer down to my router and connected via an ethernet cable. Same issue. Basically, the computer connects to the router, but not to the internet. Tried restoring to an earlier date when the connection worked. Still the same problem. Finally punted and did a systemn restore. Now the wifi connects, but it is an old computer that came with the original XP and ie6. Can't install a newer version of IE and can't connect to windows update. Have installed SP3 and have tried a number of other things with no luck. May be time to give up on the computer although it works fine except for the lack of updates (and inability to install McAfee because of the outdated IE). Will keep poking at it for a while. Appreciate your help. If you have any suggestions on the current "can't get there from here" issue, feel free to pass them on.

You might try disabling the MAC filtering. It's trivially easy for someone to spoof your MAC address as it is sent in the clear with all traffic anyhow, so all it does is potentially cause you trouble. I didn't see that you've tried resetting the router to its factory defaults, but that might be worth a shot.
