Re: Edward Johnson Moneyball?
You left out the fact that Eddie Johnson scored 14 goals in one season in the MLS. Zigi Schmid tends to get the most out of his players minus fredy ljungburg or what ever his name is. Eddie was once thought to be the most talented player with great upside that the U.S. had to offer. All the talk gave him a bit of over confidence when he took his talents to Fulham, then bounced around England, then Greece and Mexico. He has the chance to revitalize his career with the Sounders and maybe show something to Jurgen Klinsmen. It is Sad to see Lamar Neagle go because I thought we were just beginning into tap into his talents but I wish him the best in Montreal. As for Mike Fucito. He brought energy and speed to the pitch and he certainly was a fan favorite. But I think fans will also enjoy the talents of Eddie Johnson along side Freddie Montero. He will have to prove himself to Zigi Schmid of course. I don't think he should start right away. Maybe Obrien White (if he is still on the team), or Nate Jaqua up front to start things off until Eddie gels with the rest of the team. I'm nervously excited for things to kick off here. The sounders are going to have to work hard to get through to the Semis of the Concacaf Tournament.

Re: Edward Johnson Moneyball?
This trade says something to me about the players on the team and potential forwards. It says the experiment with two short forwards wasn't working (we all knew this). Fucito was a sub for Montero and not a complement. From what it sounds like, it sounds like Estrada is making strides and thus is coming up to where Fucito may be so we had 2 players who were backups for 1 and we can't keep Estrada down forever. OBW is still a ways from getting back. I don't know if we will ever see him hit the pitch, which is sad as he was producing well (in his very short time). Ochoa is apparently sluggish and has digressed. They have come out and said he isn't where he needs to be. So I see EJ actually starting. He comes in as a Blaise type. Someone who has a bit of history scoring (at least in the MLS) who can take pressure off Montero and score some.
Getting rid of Lamar is sad, but we have 3 or 4 left wingers. We have El Flaco, Zak, and Christian. Zak I think must be getting a lot closer to starting then has been said. In reality, we just have too much of a log jam there. It makes sense in reality why those two were sent. I hope the trade was worth it as a good forward may be our missing link.

Re: Sounders up 1 goal
I don't see us being shut out down there, so I'm not concerened about that one goal we gave up here. Santos have had problems defensively all year, especially on set pieces. That'll be key for us, converting our set pieces. We do that, we advance imo. Our defense is looking to be the tops in all of MLS, so i don't see us giving up more than 2 goalsl, if that.
If we keep our heads (you know they're going to try to "fight" us and be physical to get us red carded), and hold possesion like we did last night, we'll be fine.
