The trails are very easy and wide,no big hills or narrow cliff hangers at all. The worst part is the dirt road up the hill to the trails and it is wide enough for a pickup truck to go up.The trails are more like riding in open areas, there is also an arena that is available to use there it is next to the pool. The place is actually a dude ranch , they have camps for kids and take them up on guided rides. Last time I was there there was a group of beginner girl scouts learning to ride and going out on guided rides on the trails. I rode the trails a bit and found that I would take a green horse out on them with out hesitation. The pony may see things like deer, turkeys, elk, people in the pool, but nothing real scary or difficult. It would do any horse good to see lots of activity and goings on it teaches them to stay calm. We have set check in time for 3pm in the afternoon but may be ready before then to let people in. there are still plenty of wall tents, bunk houses and tee pees available to rent also. I would bring a high line or portable corral just in case the corrals are already filled and if you are going to sleep in a tent, tee pee be prepared to drop your trailer and just take the truck up the hill with all your gear and ride the horse/s up there is plenty of space to high line or set up a portable corral on the hill and also down in the field where every one with a living quarters will be or that rented a bunk house or cabin.

Thanks for the great info... sounds like a really good ride for a young, greener horse! I'll work on Rocketman to say YES to me  I have a lovely fully self contained Camper so that makes it really easy

Here's some of the bucket raffle and silent auction prizes are as follows, 1 basket of assorted chocolates,1 basket of desert wines and cheeses,1 basket of dynamite products,1 basket of misc. horse products,1 basket of fancy soaps/bath products,1 auto (live auction) 1 oil painting of your choice (done by a local artist),1 western style print,1 large wood cactus, misc. horse gear and dog stuff, and numerous other prizes! just to name a few. Happy trails and hope to see you all there. We still have plenty of space left for campers and their stock.

Wyldterv, I took a green horse to Flying Horseshoe Ranch 2 yrs ago. She'd had one month of formal training and about 100 rides, and she was fine. The heat and going up the long hill/road to reach the trails really pooped her out. She was fine after she caught her breath at the top where it levels out and the trails begin.

I decided that since it was so hot and there were so many kids there for camp, that if we went again, it would be in the spring or fall. I like kids, but some of them were getting into our stuff (in our cabin) and things went missing.

For those interested the Olympic chapter of back country horseman has rented the entire ranch for this event, If they haven't payed to be on the ride they have to leave, so no girl scout troops or 4 h groups not tons of kids running around and getting into things. only kids with there parents that payed for the ride.

Well I'd be taking my camper which LOCKS  not to mention I BITE kids I don't like ROTFLMAO  My gelding is extremely fit, so if I COULD tire him out a bit, that would be all the better, lol... I just did not want to try to take a horse that has only been on trails 4 times on a ride that has extreme conditions  I've had one bad accident (Mare and I over a huge bank, NOT a fun time...) so I try to avoid having more

I'm still working (as in begging, lol) Rocketman to buy the trip for me as an early B-Day gift  With any luck he'll buy something at auction this weekend and solve my problem by having to do something NICE for ME

Hey Cassy,

Just wondering how your preparations are going for this ride? Any idea how many people will be riding? It sounds like you and your horse are in great shape. You've been covering a lot of territory this summer!

so far 117 people with there horses will be attending and we have room for 150 give or take. It is going to be a good ride and fun time, lots of raffle stuff, 2 saddles so far, and a bunch of other things more than I can name. I am looking forward to hearing andy bales do his thing and the food as well as meeting new people.
