Will rolling cause colic?
I was under the misconception that rolling can cause colic. It sounds like that's a rare cause. Glad to know because Cody loves to roll.

as a horse ages the get little fat type pendulum thins hanging off the muscles of the stomach and when they roll some times one of these can whip around the intestine and cut off circulation thus causing colic. I have seen this once in my life the horse could not be saved. I knew the horse and rode him he was my best friends horse. My last image of him was on the surgical table at pilchuck with his intestines exposed and tubes in his nose, the intestines where black and too much of them had died before he got to the vet clinic and they couldn't remove the dead portion and resection it back together.

^^ They are called strangulating lipomas for very good reason. We lost a 30ish gelding to colic from it. Went through 3 days of up and down as it tightened and loosened before we opted to just end it. Surgery wasn't even an option at his age.
I did worry about a torsion colic when we had a really bad case of hives. The horse would roll frantically or just lay on his back wiggling like a dog. Spent a lot of time cold hosing his entire body until the vet got there.
