Do you have equestrian goals for this year? Mine are a continuation from last year: ride ride ride and get Joe better with bikes on the trails. We'd like to see Buck in Cle Elum July 12-15 so I'm trying to clear my schedule for that.

well the ride and more ride is in the plans for me also but so are a few other horsey things. I am sponsoring a de-spooking clinic by bill ritchey in april on the 13 and 14th then the following weekend I am going camping to burke lake, then camping again in may,june,july and august all at different places. In between camp trips and such this year I am in the process of starting up a new riding club. The profit from the clinic is the seed money to get it started and on the way to being successful, a few of us are still working out the details of the club. Things like a mission statement and club rules, what we are all about that sort of thing. WE all came together because we like to trail ride and camp so will be occasionally putting on fund raising events that have to do with that. such as self defense for the trail rider, de spooking ,maybe a trail comp, camp outs, camp cooking, that sort of thing. should be fun.

I hope to have the time to get Bug to the point I can call him "green" and not just "started".
If Lucy's front end catches up with her back end, I plan to start her. If not, I guess that frees up my schedule to ride Bug more.
I plan to head to New Mexico in April and bring Ricky home.
If I keep Annie, i'm going to do some competitive trail rides with her, and maybe some local shows.
We have less going on this year so I *should* have more time to ride.

Horsepeople, That's impressive that you're sponsoring a Bill Ritchey de-spooking clinic. What's involved on your end? Is this going to be in Burlington? I definitely would like to watch one of his clinics.

Kriss, Is there any news with the girl that wants Annie? Do you have much work left to finish your new house?

No not in Burllington, in Poulsbo across the big salty pond @ Cathie's Diamond hill ranch on the 13th and 14th of april. Well had to pay a couple of deposits on the arena and to bill, still working up the flyers, and obstacles for the clinic, but word of mouth has people sending in a deposits already and asking if it is full yet. I have several women helping me with this project. The biggest outcome of this is going to be the riding club that is forming along with it. still working out details/rules/etc for that to happen. This is going to be one busy year for me. Also hubby wants to take time to go look at property over in moscow Idaho, amongst other places. We are looking into getting a place that is a bit dryer but not too much hotter when he retires a second time but we want to buy it before he retires and use it as a vacation place until retirement. So this year we get to start looking and refining what we want in a new home/ place and hopefully in a couple years we will know where we want to live and ride. This is going to be slow to find some thing perfect in the perfect area. BUSY BUSY YEAR!

Every year I have these great ideas, but they never get done. Maybe by writing them down I'll actually accomplish something this year.

I'd like to get my mare riding without a bridle. She already moves very nicely with leg pressure so I think getting her to respond to a neck rope shouldn't be too hard for her. On top of that she is super smart, but also has the attitude to go along with it. Sometimes she'll turn around and bite your foot while you are riding, so it is nice to have a rein handy to pull her head back around.

The gelding needs more work in the arena doing things like yeilding his hind quarters and side passing. He technically "knows" how to already, but performs very inconsistently. He thinks his job is a trail pony and absolutely loathes arena work. Still, I need to be better about making him do things all the other horses have learned with little effort.

Personally I'd like to hit some new trails over the summer. I already have a spot picked out in Ellensburg that I want to ride in May or June. Another trip to the beach during the summer is also in order. More time in the saddle!

I found the best way for me to get things done is to make a written schedule and stick to it. set dates,times, and what you want to accomplish during those days.

@ Realtime - I know how you feel about the goals. Life gets in the way sometimes and it doesn't matter how much planning you do. Thats why I gave up and sent Ricky to New Mexico - although, they are in a deep freeze right now and he is just standing around eating, just like he would be at home

@Joan - we have countertops on order, and once those are installed the house will be fully functional. I imagine that all of the little things that need to be done to finish the place will probably take a while. In fact, i'm guessing that once the weather starts to improve we will not make more progress. I haven't heard from the folks who want Annie, but I'm not in a hurry to send her down the road so I will wait for them to bring it up.

Our plans seem simple at this time. We hope to go to some horseplowing events and may put on our own plowing near Carnation. Some parades are in the works, hopefully some weddings for the carriage. The draft horse people will have another clinic this spring--will keep people posted. This is a free event. This is informative even if you don't have a draft. There is a rumour of a wagon train this summer.
