What were your horsey highlights for 2012?

Postby Joan Deutsch on Mon Dec 31, 2012 12:26 pm

Reflecting back on 2012, what were the highlights with your horses? Did you reach your goals? It was a big year for me, working with Juliane Hanley and getting Joe back on the trails after a couple of years off. We also enjoyed watching Buck's clinic at Cle Elum in June. Seeing the Budweiser Clydesdales at the Monroe Fairgrounds was inspiring. In September, the Snohomish County Parks Dept installed culverts to replace bridges that had been the scene of numerous horse accidents. And in December, Mike started taking dressage lessons to improve his seat out on the trails.

Our horsey highlight was hooking a 3-abreast to a (funtional) fire engine and having our young driver take it in the parade. (She is training to be a firefighter). There were lots of other good times too. Just being with the horses is great. Happy New Year!

My big highlights were going to http://www.barbapple.com Horse Play Ranch in the Yelm area, spending a few days there and taking lessons from Barb. I realized what a precious, intelligent and willing horse I had and what a terrible waste it was not to be working with him more. Then I went to a http://libertyhorsetraining.com/ Robin Gates clinic in Monroe and that confirmed that I had a willing, interactive horse to work with. This year I plan to really start spending time with him.

My younger daughter finished her final year in 4H and got to participate in the flag presentation for the 2nd year at the Clydesdale Show at county fair.

My older daughter showed her first year of open dressage and not only qualified for Regionals, she got champion at Training level and placed 3rd & 4th at First.

Lowlight was having to sell Lucy, but a highlight was seeing her right around the New Year and seeing she's happy where she is and knowing that her new owners love her.

Another highlight was starting dressage lessons at a barn that has chickens, goats, dogs, and a mini donkey living there. Fun times hearing a donkey bray during a lesson or while tacking up!
