Jack bumps Buddy as fav horse name, says SmartPak

“Jack” replaces “Buddy” as America’s favorite horse name. “Charlie” and “Annie” make the SmartPak list. "Cody" and "Rocky" hold strong. Did your horse's name make the list?

None of my horse will ever be featured on the "most popular name list" since they all have original names. I like the names Buddy, Rocky and Comet, but they are just a little to common for me. Each horse is unique, and I think unique names are in order. How many horses do you know named Chance, Lucky or Zippy? Time to try something new!

I also don't think animals should use human names. There are so many possibilities out there - why give a horse the same name as your neighbor or Uncle Bill? There are some exceptions though, for example if you have an Andalusian and want to give him a name fitting for his origin, such as Diego or Cortez.

Realtime, I agree totally even though our horses have popular names. They came with the names and I didn't want to change them. Can you share your names?

Our horses have earned their barn names after living with them. Except Bug, who was so named when we first met him cause he was just "cute as a Bug" :D Annie was named after Little Orphan Annie... When my sister bought her at auction she thought she was a yearling because she was tiny and sad looking. After getting a good look at her and her papers after the purchase, they realized she was 3, and sad looking because she had a broken jaw. Killer was so named out of irony - he is about the sweetest horse you will ever meet. On the other hand, Lucy earned her nickname because she was such a mean girl when we brought her home - like the Peanuts character. Ginger was so named because even at 18 (when I bought her), with bad knees and bad feet and swaybacked, she was a saucy, spunky redhead.
