Amazing story of crowd favorite going into rodeo finals
Mary Walker is the sentimental crowd favorite going into the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas this week. Amazing story, nice video even if you don't follow the sport. Fran Jurga's Equus blog:

She was featured in a magazine a couple of months ago - Western Horseman maybe? They went into a little more detail about the death of her son and some other recent challenges. I will be looking for her as I fast forward through the NFR on my TiVO...

What a tragedy about the death of her son. Kriss, I didn't get to see any of it so let us know what it was like if you get a chance.
About the competition: She won! I posted a link on our FB page and Molly Morrow will post more photos after the ceremony.

Tonight is only round 3 (the finals started on the 6th) and there is a total of 10 so it isn't over yet, but I am glad to see that she is doing well.

Mary placed first in the average each of the first three rounds, but knocked a barrel down in the fourth. With 6 rounds left to run she has plenty of time to make up for one barrel as long as they run clear rounds. There is another woman running at the NFR this year (don't remember her name) who is a rookie at 54 (Mary is 53) - you just have to love that
Also, there is a local woman, Brenda Mays, from Terrebonne, Oregon, who is running for the 6th year in a row. Her horse Jethro has career earnings of over $600,000!

This is a link to her story at the NFR website. It goes into a little bit of detail about the death of her son, and her horrific accident on Latte, the horse that is winning for her at the finals this week.

Tonight is the last round of the NFR and if Mary Walker makes a good, clean run, she will win the world
