Re: Colic weirdness
I've heard locally of several cases of colic so am trying to turn up my radar again. With all this rain, wonder if horses are hanging out under shelter and not moving around? The vet recently told me that in colic cases in the fall he suspects encysted red worms. From HorseTalk:
"Encysted small redworm will not show up in a faecal worm egg count - even if your horse has shown a negative or low count it could still be harbouring several million encysted small redworms.
"Encysted small redworms can remain dormant inside a horse for up to two years, but they usually "wake-up" in late winter or early spring, developing and emerging from the gut wall all at the same time."

I know mine are not moving around much with this wind and rain. I have decided to put apple flavored electrolytes in every bodies water to encourage them to drink more. It is working so far.

Good idea, Horsepeople. I tried that years ago and Cody wouldn't drink it!

The stuff I got over summer for when I travel and add to the water the horses seemed to like it allot the sucked the water down with it in it. Thinking it is the brand and the way it makes the water smell. To me it smells like granny smith apples even the donkeys like this stuff and will lick it off my hands.
