Boots for wider feet?
Was wondering if any of our female riders out there have a source for a wider barn/paddock/riding boot?
I finally split my hiking boots and my Muck boots! I like the Ariats and the George Strait boots but alas they only come in B's or maybe a C-I wear orthotics and these just are not wide enough.
Ideas??Anyone else had this problem? I even checked out the Dublin brand, for 200 dollars you would think they had something other than one width!
Any ideas would be appreciated, otherwise I think I will try a men's boot but they are built on a different last and often are not a comfortable as a woman's boot.

I'd definitely try men's sizes. My orthotics fit in them but not in women's sizes. I've been wearing Justin Roper (I think that's what they're called) and they're very comfortable. Good luck!

I don't have orthotics but do have wide feet and usually wear either men's shoes or women's 1/2 a size larger than my usual size. My oldest daughter wears a size larger than me and I can comfortably wear her boots.

Re: Boots for wider feet?
I have a horrible time with shoes as I also need a very wide shoe and wear orthotics. In my running shoes I have been buying mens because I can get them in a 4E - yes, that is a 4E. I like the Justin Gypsy because of the round toe and they seem to be a bit wider than a lot of womens boots. I have not been putting my orthotics in those, but I am getting a new set made now, so I will have the podiatrist trim the new set to fit the Justins. It is tough for gals with wide feet, because in womens shoes "wide" is usally just a D - that is a long way from a 4E.

I too have a hard time finding any shoes that fit comfortably, but not due to width I wear an women's size 11(hubby calls them clown feet) and have real high arches, most places don't even carry cute or nice looking shoes in my size.
I can't even get a decent muck boot to fit as I also have 21inch calves and they have no support at all.
The only boot that fits and is comfortable has been the ariat brand. May have to just buy ariat mules and other shoes exclusively. I hate shoe shopping it is frustrating at best.

Re: Boots for wider feet?
Thanks to all for your info, I was beginning to think I was the only one with this issue! What is it with shoe manufacturers and only a B width?
I think I am going to try the men's boots since that may be the only way to get enough room. I like the lace-ups because like Cassy I have high arches and often can't get a pull on to go on since it won't go past the angle of my ankle.
Kriss-have you tried "When the shoe fits" stores? I know they have one in vancouver but I was able to get a running/ cross training shoe there that fit, it was the Saucony brand which seem to run quite a bit wider. Here are a few more my podiatrist gave me, Jay's wide Shoes Clackamas and Beaverton, Foot Solutions-Ross Center,Tigard,Raleigh Hills, Priority Footwear, Portland and Fit Right NW, Vancouver,Portland. Hope these might help you out, maybe you have already checked them but my podiatries thought them to be reputable and helpful--Good Luck!

I do a lot of my running shoe shopping at Road Runners Sports - they have a pretty good variety of sizes. If I find a pair in a store that I like, I will buy all that they have in the size I need. I know that sounds like a lot of shoes, but I run a lot of miles and a pair of shoes only last about 4 months, especially since I started using the rigid, carbon fiber orthotics. Actually, it is not that me feet are really that wide, but I have terrible bunions from my feet being so flat that they have left my feet kind of deformed. I have to have the extra width to keep from getting really bad blisters. I haven't tried Ariats, but I need a new pair of boots, so I will check them out.

Re: Boots for wider feet?
I have several pairs of Ariats and I like them a lot for a few reasons: The models I've purchased have been roomier in the toe but not the grand canyon on the heel. I have a narrow heel...so I mostly wear mules with no backs in my day to day wear but in riding I found my zip up paddock boots with the ATS sole were the most accommodating in the toe area and I can wear them all day/all night and sit on my foot, forgetting that I'm wearing them....I also feel that way about their Santa Cruz line of clogs/mules...which I am wearing at this moment...OH....and the new Fatbaby "II" is roomy but is made to ride in, unlike the original fatbaby that was apparently not rated safe in the stirrup. I've ridden in my Fatbaby II's and did not have a problem.
I also happen to have a pair of Justin Gypsies and I had to go down a 1/2 size because they were just a little too big but I like them quite a bit.

Re: Boots for wider feet?
Thought an up date was in order on this subject!
I found another maker of womens wider hiking lace up boots-KEEN-They are very comfortable and can be ridden in. They carry wider widths and the hiking boots have a little deeper toe box to accomodate those of us with orthotics. They are online and are carried in several stores that have wider sizesbut not cheap(140.00). They also carry waterproof boots too.
I had just purchased a pair about 8 days before I fell and tore up the ankle but I wanted to let all of you know about these boots. Also LLBean has wider sized lace-up boots so I may try them next time since they are a bit cheaper..
Hope this infor helps someone out there searching for comfort
