Would it be legal to grow weed even if it was legal?

Postby mafeki on Sat Sep 01, 2012 2:31 pm

I know with the newer initiative or whatever regarding marijuana you'll be able to get a license to farm pot but it'll still be a federal crime. Would it be safe?

Baby steps toward the goal. I would think you would have to be a licensed grower and ahere to law. This should not be any different than alcohol.

That doesn't really answer my question. I've read the actual initiative here it does say you can get a license from the state liquor control board as a Marijuana producer. My question is would a Marijuana producer be exempt from federal law?

No. There are no exemptions from federal law.

So you'll still have legal issues even though it's legal in Washington? I haven't ever read anything in regards to federal law, there's no ground rules.

Yeah, it won't be criminal under Washington law, but still will under federal law. Still the potential for legal issues if the federal law enforcement steps in.

You're not thinking of getting into the marijuana
business, are you?
Maybe you'd better keep thinking of the coffee
stand.

No a producer would not be exempt under Federal Law. They may if they wish (and they have) arrested many. The public has shown the federal government this is unacceptable. I'm sure there are underhanded grower/dealers out there. I would hope the state would have strong enforcement as they currently do with liquor.
Thankfully, this far less dangerous drug (compared to alcohol) has helped my brother. Alcohol destroyes body organs. This has not been shown to be the case in Marijuana.

Well actually farming is what I was thinking about that lead me to think maybe growing pot would be very profitable. A coffee stand seem vary questionable whether or not that'd be successful. Farming on the other hand is basically just numbers if you're growing cilantro and you make $21/square foot, an acre is 43,560 square feet, you'd be grossing almost a million dollars. Though that might not be how it is in reality but the math would be simple and of course there'd be more work involved. I've always thought Aeroponics was interesting. I actually want to join a band.
