The Seattle Times Newspapper

Postby mafeki on Mon Jul 16, 2012 12:07 am

So I been getting The Seattle Times newspaper and I just have to say it's pretty boring. I already read all the stuff online anyway and the paper man doesn't really want to talk much. I'm playing about the last part but seriously what's the point in paying for something you already get free?

What I don't understand is why I got a newspaper awhile ago with a sticker advertising the seattletimes mobile website.
Like anyone with a phone that can look at all the stuff online free would still be willing to keep their subscription.
I wonder what rocket scientist thought of that. I use adblock so there's no way they're generating money through ads with me and I'm sure most people do also. I could suggest some good changes but then again they have marketing professions that are probably already requesting it but not if they're running the show now.

I got to say with the way newspapers are becoming more and more outdated and the current state of The Seattle Times it's not looking too good. It's weird seeing TV advertisements for the Newyork Times these days.

I get my "Real" news from alternative sources that are not "controlled".

Example: Study: Viewers turning to YouTube as news source

NEW YORK (AP) — A new study has found that YouTube has become a major platform for news, one where viewers are turning for eyewitness videos in times of major events and natural disasters.

The Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism on Monday released their examination of 15 months of the most popular news videos on the Google Inc.-owned site. It found that while viewership for TV news still easily outpaces those consuming news on YouTube, the video-sharing site is a growing digital environment where professional journalism mingles with citizen content.

"There's a new form of video journalism on this platform," said Amy Mitchell, deputy director of the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism. "It's a form in which the relationship between news organizations and citizens is more dynamic and more multiverse than we've seen in most other platforms before."

Another side of it: I like to sit on the couch, have
tea or whatever, and read the paper. See the
difference between older and young people?
Tho I know a lot of older people do use the
computer instead.
And youtube, I use it for entertainment...so
many subjects and they have it!

You could sit down with some tea and read the news with a tablet or even a laptop or mobile phone I don't see how it's any different unless if for some reason you like the smell of paper. It's also nice to be able to read peoples comments on certain articles. Twitter is pretty known for being a good news source I never really thought you youtube to be as good.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the smell. Papers do not emit 3G or Wi-Fi electromagnetic radiation as mobile gadgets do. Irradiating yourself in that way, sometimes for hours on end, is not very good, I guess.

Besides, reading papers instead of the computer screen may be better for your eyes.

YouTube is good as a news source as far as witnesses accounts, but do I get a professional and unbiased analysis of daily news there?

I hope you're not suggesting The Seattle Times is unbiased?
As if the Trayvon Martin case didn't already make that clear.

No single paper is unbiased as everyone has their interests.

It's only when you read a bunch of different papers with various points of views and analyses expressed therein, most likely contradictory, that you get more or less a clear picture.
