I see no problem with it if there are no local objections. Objections from those who live outside of that district should not count. I believe that each school district should have autonomie.
I think, Glen, with much due and earned respect, that regardless of objection, we do have a separation clause in our Constitution that must be respected, objection or not.
Parents who want to have their children educated with certain religious teachings, should enroll them in private schools or as some choose, home school.

By all means ........ let the feelings of the few, or sometimes even the ONE that are affended supercede those of the many.

Re: school prayer
RF, I respect what you are saying, and perhaps in a large metro area it could be a problem, but I was raised in a small mining town, we were all fairly like minded, and no one objected at all. It was part of the culture of the late 50's and early 60's, my grade school, years.
Now , as far as the alleged separation of church and state, I have read and studied the 1st Amendment many times, and to me it clearly states, "Congress shall not-------", It says nothing about state, school districts, counties, etc, and I believe that what it means is that the government cannot dictate what make a church a church, and it has nothing to do with not allowing Bible reading or prayer in school.. It also meant that Congress could not say for instance that the state religion would be Lutheran, or Roman Catholic, or Congregational, or the Church of England. It does not say that local public schools cannot have religion in the classroom.

Re: school prayer
School students are much more diverse than they were a few decades ago. When we said grace before lunch and celebrated Christmas; they only people we apparently offended were the Jewish. Take in to account the many differing religions in this country. Christians do NOT hold all the religion cards here. So, yes, I agree if you want your kid taught religion as well as the three R's; send them to the private school of your choice. As long as tax payer money pays for public schools, organized prayer needs to remain out. Praise the Lord he isn't partial to any particular religion. Believe as you will but public school simply is not the proper place, period!

But I don't think there should be such
a stink about it....wish some people would
just let it go...the more they complain, the
worse it gets....
You're right beenthere....please school the
kids in the 3 R's....

I agree that the 3 R'S must be taught, if , however, no religion is allowed in schools, then they cannot teach or require any students to read about the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses like i had to do in World History.

I didn't learn about them in history class, rather, I learned in literature class. So how many in the US currently practice that religion?

There is NO 'seperation clause' in either the US Constitution or WA state Constitution. Nice try anyway Fred....with much due and earned respect......

I don't think there needs to be a clause in the state constitution. If you'd like one; start a petition. School is for learning and church is for praying. The DMV is for our autos, boats, motorcycles and licenses. The doctor is there for my health ETC......Maybe that's too simple for some to understand.

Re: school prayer
.....actually federal restriction on school prayer violates the free exercise clause of the US Constitution.
Some people pray at their doctors office. A lot of people swear at the DMV. Congress offers a prayer before a session. Troops pray before deployment. NFL players pray before a game. People pray all over the place. We don't restrict God to an otherwise vacant building for one hour a week.
