school prayer

Postby mel bradford on Sat Feb 09, 2013 9:41 am

The new school prayer:

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken a loud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks..
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen

I've noticed the scale sometimes goes
too much the other way.
Take smoking. Now they are even
considering no smoking in parks, etc.
So the pendulum has to go back to
the middle, if possible.
At least that's what I'm hoping for.

OH GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PUBLIC schools are just that, for public education, paid for by the PUBLIC, with students from EVERY religion you can (or some of you can't) imagine. There aren't enough hours in a school day to allow everyone thier time. If you want your kid to have scheduled prayer in their school then SEND THEM TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL BASED ON YOUR CHOSEN RELIGION. Though don't expect great coverage of the sciences.
I don't pay for the local catholic or christian schools since my kids never went to them. I pay for public schools cause that's where mine went. I know kids that spent part of their lunch period in prayer. That's fine with me since they were doing it quietly and didn't try to force anyone else to do it too.

Really people, we have so many other things to worry about in this world.

Craftybug, sounds right to me!

No time out for anyone's religion.
There's church's and their homes
for that.

Amazing how hostile we are to something that was removed from public education 60 years ago.......we learn to defend the very things that weaken U.S.

What is "hostile" about having
schools teaching A,B's and C's?

Muslims have their place's to
worship. We have ours, but to
pray and take time out from school
does seem to "weaken" the U.S.

Public School Prayer varied around the country but it was primarily a recitation of the Lords prayer before lessons. It took about 1 minute.

When education is divorced from faith we have neither.
