Reagan was for control after his assination attempt!! Jeesh! Please do not confuse this with fanatics on both sides now! There are some very common sense options which will not infringe on the 2nd ammendment here!

If this isn't frustrating, I don't know what is!
It is frustrating. Which is why discussion and movement on this are long overdue. It's not going to be easy to find something to save lives, but that's no excuse for doing nothing.

He wrote an Op-Ed piece in the New York Times for the Brady Bill. And when Congress was working on more legislation to ban assault weapons, Reagan joined Presidents Ford and Carter in a letter calling to ban assault weapons.

Thanks.
That was 10 years after the event however, not a knee jerk reaction by any means.

1. No one is trying to take away the 2nd Amendment.
2, the right to own guns is firmly established
3. American civilian do not need military type fire power.
4. Military type firepower should be illegal.
The over reaction is unbelievable. I read somewhere in the Times this Am where someone said
"They have their President, They have their Senate. They have their tragedy"-in reference to those who are for tighter gun control.
What kind of insensitivity is this? Why the over reaction? The same people who started the hysteria that the government wants to take away all guns is probably the same knuckleheads who started the end of the world nonsense. If I feared my own government that much, I would move to another country.

Very, very few people in America have privately owned military type fire power.

It already is for most Americans, to own a fully automatic weapon, you need to have a Class III permit from the Federal Govt. Washington State does not allow any privately owned Class III weapons even if you have the Federal Permit.

The weapon used in last week's massacure is not considered an automatic or assault rifle according to that state. However, the destruction caused in a couple of minutes may just as well have been a full auto!

Right, it wasn't knee-jerk at all. It was well calculated. He was after a good solution, not something simply out of response to his own near miss.

A debatable emotional response, which will not help in trying to determine a solution to these kind of attacks. That being said there may not be a way to prevent all of these kind of attacks.
