As Someone On Another Board Pointed Out:

"This man and his ilk have been GUN RUNNING to the Mexican Cartels, there are PLENTY of bodies of children as a result of Fast and Furious, lots more than those killed in this school, the malls and the theaters. This man and his ilk have been GUN RUNNING to the Muslim Terrorist Organizations in ALL of the ME for some time. Those terror Organizations have been killing innocent Men, Women, and Children who are Christians/Jews/Muslims/Infidels under the guise of rebel orgs overthrowing bad governments and Arab Spring. Obama is very much involved in the massacre of children in MUCH larger numbers than this event, has he shed a tear over this stuff??"

Cobra, you are a dingbat. This has nothing to do with fast and furious or the cartels! There have been over 60 mass murders in this country since the 1970s!

I am talking about holding people accountable, and not poor George, Billy picked on him in school, so he killed these kids. Or poor George, he had terrible parents, so he killed all of these children. Sorry, not acceptable in my book, if he was that mentally disturbed, he should have been in a mental hospital. But even that, I have problems with. This was planned carefully, which shows he knew full well what he was doing. He and he alone is responsible for these heinous murders.

Ok Glen so that makes it just dandy and ok? We will move on until the next one happens and the next one and.....?
Where is the God damned answer and solution here!

I think my thread said nothing about it being OK. As a matter of fact, it says the direct opposite. It is not OK! And all of the babble about his home life and etc, will not solve it, either. I don;t want to hear from his neighbors
about what a good iittle boy that he was, and how shocked that they were. No, someone,, somewhere, knew this kid was a a bad apple, and that something needed to be done.

As far as gun control, I am mostly against it, except for assault weapons and etc. They shpuld be made impossible to get.

If you are going to go out and shoot a bunch of innocent people; most, in the past used handguns as they are far easier to conceal. Maybe everyone in that classroom should have had a gun as some believe! That school did everything they could to prevent this yet the shooter apparently broke in. Why oh why kindergardners? As we mourn and seek answers we will never get we also need to brace for the next one.

i guess that I am not understanding you today. I thought that you were a gun owner, and believed in the right to own guns. If we are talking about background checks and waiting periods, then heck yes, I am for that. But, didn't they say that these guns belonged to his mother?

I am not belittling mental illness, either. I have been around it, and I a educated in it. We have Ronnie Reagan to thank for so mentally ill folks walking the streets today.

Who, do you think, is making excuses for killings? Why would you think that?

What people should want to know is all the factors that contributed. That's not "making excuses."

This attitude toward the mentally unwell is one of the factors that contributes to these people not seeking help. We have stigmatized mental illness, so people keep quiet, they don't want to be seen as "that person." Nobody extends a helping hand, everyone extends a pointed finger. You want to lock him up in a mental hospital, not help or hope he finds help he needs. What message does that show if you're reading this with a mental illness?

It's especially hard when people who want to, don't have the resources for therapy, and don't have the resources for getting medications they need. When our health coverage doesn't cover mental health. It would be so great if all citizens had access to mental and emotional health services, and it wasn't stigmatized. You never hear cancer patients talking about "I don't need a doctor," but why should those who we suggest therapy get upset about seeing a shrink?

Yes, plenty of neighbors and his brother knew he had a history of mental illness. So who was out to help him get help, instead of stigmatizing those with mental illness?

Yes Glen, I am a responsible gun owner! This does not pigeon hole me! There are several measures which can be taken which do not threaten the 2nd ammendment but the NRA steadfastly disapproves and preaches fear to all. Please don't tell me you drank their kool-aid?

I in no way endorse the NRA. When I was 12 year old, I did take their gun safety course and learned how to safely shoot and care for my rifle. I had a card and a patch saying that I was a 'safe hunter" and that I belonged to the NRA.
Since then, I have had nothing to do with them. I deplore their stance , and no, I do not drink their proverbial Kookie Aide.
I was not pigeon holing you, I was just trying to understand. what you meant. You are my buddy.
By the way, I do not hunt, nor do I own a gun. I inherited my dad's pistol, but I sold it.
That brings up one gun problem. In Idaho, if I wanted to buy a gun at a store,I would have to go through a check, but I could be gifted a gun, and not have to register it or even report it. That is one loop hole that needs to be sewed up. Another one is that I could have sold that gun to my neighbor, who wanted it, and no paper work would have had to be filled out.Kind of crazy.

The amount of pain and sadness those affect by this must go beyond anything I could ever empathize with, I mean not just the sadness but the daily anger and frustration.
