Do ya think?

Postby Grandma Lynn on Sun Dec 02, 2012 3:34 pm

Just found a ration book from WW11.
Still has some coupons in it, think they
can be used soon?

I was joking as well as Lynn knows. I saw some coupon books on a pawn show on tv. Worthless today. Different mentality of society as well. In those days we were at war and this country pulled together and did without for the troops. I'm proud to know Lynn from the greatist generation!

I wasn't thinking of trying to sell mine.
It's worth more to me, as it brings back
memories, good and not so good.
And it's fun to show the young ones.

Yes, my sister was a war widow, and
had a baby. And worked at Boeings.
Mom held the family together, we all
babysat too. Father died of a stroke
before he knew my brother was alive.
He was a Navy Pilot, received awards.
Came home and was a passenger in
his friends car and they had an accident
and he broke his leg,....and no physical
scars until then!
I'll stop, enough reminiscing .

I have a coupon book also...from 1943...its not worth much....but as a reminder....its priceless.

Father served 20 years...was injured in the parking lot after his final physical....go figure.

Can't mention 'rationing' today. It irritates our political sensibilities and disturbs the solemn religious observance of the wonderment of human government.

No "rationing" mentioned, right.
Instead we have raising taxes,
raising prices on everything, so
we will buy less.
Buy from China, so we have
cheaper prices on everything.
(Not true on some things, like
appliances, they are cheaply
made, but prices are UP!)

I'm not old enough for any of the stories about WWII rationing, but I DO remember gas rationing under Jimmy Carter. I use to jump out of bed at 6:00 am every Saturday morning, throw on a pair of shorts and drive to the gas station so that I wouldn't have to wait in the huge lines later in the day.
