Bill rewrite lets feds read your e-mail without warrant

Postby EasyGoin on Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:00 pm

CNET has learned that Patrick Leahy, the influential Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee, has dramatically reshaped his legislation in response to law enforcement concerns. A vote on his bill, which now authorizes warrantless access to Americans' e-mail, is scheduled for next week.

So now the govt wants to be able to read your email without your knowledge or permission.

You all should be concerned with this Bush era big brother mandate. Just what do you think was responsible for General Patreaous' ousting?

So much for the 4th Amendment. There are ways to beat it, but I bet that would make you more of a target, even if you weren't breaking the law.

Come on guys, the government at all levels has always been watching, and they even encourage our fellow citizens and neighbors to do their work for them. Ever hear of J Edgar Hoover? How about red light cameras?
How about WSP asking us to report littering? How about Block Watch? I am not saying all these things are necessarily bad, but the government has always kept a Naughty and Nice list, and that list is very subjective to the current leader, whoever he or she may be. Is it right? of course not, but I am sure even George Washington had his list.

To my knowledge Washington didn't have an 'enemies list' although he was at the top of the British Parliments'. He did however identify enemies and pests of the Republic as an observation of human nature and clannish frailties.

The Feds , who are above the law, can do whatever they want and will do whatever they need to maintain their illigitimate power, control their image and cover up the inherant graft, corruption and scandal that besets the District of Criminals. Occasionally the mafia infighting erupts into a public display of moral outrage where the media in their on going solicitaion and condescension of public opinion molds and shapes an event or series of events for our consumption, lowly spiritual gratification and a paycheck from the advertisers who sponsor the labotomy box in all its wonder. Its a dialectic process of consumption, digestion and defecation we've come to know as (so-called) progress.

The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.(Mencken) The FBI was established simply as an investigative body under the auspices of the Justice Department for Federal crimes. Under the US Constitution there are only 3 federal crimes. Today, thanks to Congress and the noxious weed known as the US Code and the conglomerate of the ABC regulators federal authority can be construed into anything and anywhere. Thus an axiomatic defense of centralized power in the name of security and a dispensery of the anti-culture in the form of public interest and control.
