Re: Promoting fatherless children
Straight people do, it is called Mardi Gras- though that is decidedly less family friendly, and I doubt my step-son would be asking all the time when it was to make sure he didnt miss it! He loves the energy, activity, and free things vendors give out. Who doesn't?
Of course there are 0.5% of people that are being themselves in degrading ways (and I'm sure you must have been to one in Seattle, Grandma, and just failed to mention that it is a minutely small percentage that spoil it for you),

No one is perfect and of course there's
a few people in any and every group that
are the "bad apples".
Trying to think of what I did as a young
gal. Sure I wasn't a goody goody girl, but
didn't parade around or cause trouble for
anyone, maybe myself!
Or judge people like they are doing now,
and me included, I guess.
I went to the Seafair parades, etc. nothing
like the gay parades, and others...
Okay, they didn't have them then!
They wouldn't have dared....

Re: Promoting fatherless children
This year for Pride, and two years ago, I marched and was one of about twenty people holding a big flag - I definitely would have dared to carry a like flag in the Seafair parades, why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't I have marched with Boeing or Microsoft, or marched with Parents, Friends and Family of Lesbians and Gays, or marched with Catholics for Marriage Equality - that was parading around and causing trouble? Why wouldn't my step-son have loved to be there to hand out Human Rights Campaign stickers to the eager crowd?
I'm still reading your posts, but I have yet to see any indication you have actually been to a pride parade, but you seem to place a lot of judgement on them as parading around and causing trouble, all having crazy customs and stupid acting. All degrading themselves. Do you have any ground on which to base this assertions? Any standing at all to lay that judgement? Or are you, too, speaking out of ignorance?

Re: Promoting fatherless children
And of course, mel, since you've been there and know more about gay pride than all of the gays and their friends and family that have been there, you know that pictures like those are the standard, right?
Not at all like what Grandma said, right?
No, those pictures are what 95% of the people are, right? Ignore all the people in the background who are there...

Boy, from fatherless children to gay parades.
But there was a link!
I think parades should be for young and old.
If you can't control who is "parading" then
there's always those that like to exhibit themselves.
I wonder what a straight parade would look like.
And why would there be one anyhow.

As I said, Mardi Gras! Google it! There's also the Seattle Solstice with the bodypainted bike riders, for something more exhibitionist.

Mardi Gras isn't called a "Straight Parade".
Mainly because that's not what this parade
is about. So you can't compare one with
the other.

Grandma, again you are getting caught up in words and labels! You have no problem with gays having some kind of "civil union" to cement their betroths, but just don't call it marriage. You want well behaved parades for LGTA, yet you defend Mardi Gras (seriously, the last ditch effort to "do it all" before Lent) as legitimate because it's not an official "Straight" parade? Whhhaaattt??

Re: Promoting fatherless children
Alex, to put it politely, you're full of it......so caught up in the lifestyle and the sexual lens.
Mardi gras is not the 'straight' version of gay pride. Mardi gras is by-partisan debauchery. Gay and straight.
It about as family friendly as a peep show.
Heres a real parade...our Aquatennial torchlight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY-7EDU4CpQ
Gee, Alex...its not full of perverts, drunkards, exhibitionists and amoral contortionists like you who try to brown bag the obvious. But since its not drenched in sexual politics...you would probably be bored.
Oh well
